Members of the DPRD Kabupaten Serang gathered this week for a focused workshop aimed at strengthening the council’s institutional capacity to carry out its legislative, budgeting, oversight and representative functions more effectively for the people of Serang. The two-day event, attended by council members, secretariat staff, and invited resource persons from academia, provincial agencies and civil society, highlighted practical ways to improve lawmaking quality and public service delivery at the regency level.
The workshop opened with a clear message: local democracy and better public services depend on a professional, well-informed DPRD. Organizers framed the event around four core themes—legislative drafting and harmonization, fiscal oversight and budgeting, oversight mechanisms and public accountability, and strategies to engage citizens in the policymaking process. Sessions mixed presentations, case studies, simulations and group work to ensure members could translate learning into day-to-day council activities.
Practical training on regulatory drafting was a major feature.
